Students wishing to major in education at
TJC must complete
admission procedures prior to registering for classes and must meet with a
college advisor. The links below provide information on the admissions and
registration procedures and on any student services you will need during your
college career at TJC. All services - including admissions and registration -
are available both on campus and online. TJC is committed to offering its entire
AAT degree online. Our distance students are as important to us as our local
students! Too, SACS (TJC's accrediting body) requires that all colleges &
universities ensure access to adequate student services for distance students. Because of that,
we have assembled the tools ALL education majors need to have access to
all student services. Those tools are listed below. If you don't see what you
need below, let your professor know. We'll do our
best to keep up with your needs!
Some of the links
below will lead you beyond the domain of Tyler Junior College. The College,
therefore, has no control over the content of those sites.

Advising
TJC Advising -

The information found on the link above will explain the advising process.
Education majors should keep the following things in mind.
1. Only students who are truly
distance education students and are unable to come to campus may be
advised online or by phone. All others must see an advisor in person.
2. Contact
Ms. Silvana Vierkant (Jenkins 106) at 903-510-2425 or
svie@tjc.edu OR
Ms. Carrie Rehman (Jenkins 106) at 903-510-2425 or
creh@tjc.edu and include all
necessary information.
3. Be specific in your request for help. The degree plans,
courses, and schedule are listed on this site. Familiarize yourself with
things before you contact an advisor.
4. Response time may be a couple of days as
we do not have dedicated "online advisors."
5. YOU are responsible for taking charge of your college career.
The advisors are here to help but ultimately you are responsible for
knowing what your degree plan requirements are and for making sure that
you are enrolling in the correct courses.

Many publishers sell texts directly to students, including special online

visit the publisher's website.
If you are a local student, at least one copy of every textbook required in your
education courses is always on reserve in the TJC library.
Library Services
TJC Library -
www.tjc.edu/library
The TJC Library has a number of online resources available to distance students.
Those resources are described on the pages linked to the address given above. If
you don't see what you need, contact library personnel with your problem. They
are always willing to help.
To locate education books (or a specific topic in education), go to the TJC
online card catalog using the link above. Click on "Online Card Catalog." At the
top of the online card catalog page, click on "Expert Search." Then type in your
search term, scroll down to where you can limit your search to "Coll: Books" and
click on "Go." You'll then have a list of the books you need.

with your professor to see if that applies to a specific textbook.
Tutoring for all English classes is available to distance students by emailing
your questions/problems to
writinglab@tjc.edu.
Tutoring for all Math classes is provided to distance students by the professor
of the class in which you are enrolled.
All institutions of higher education are required to offer to distance students
services that are comparable to those offered to on campus students. If you are
not getting the kind of tutoring help you need for a specific class, please let
us know by emailing education@tjc.edu.
We'll make sure you're taken care of!
