EDUCATION MAJORS ARE SPECIAL!
Education courses
are designed to be taken by education majors. They are not elective classes or even general core requirement classes. Unlike other community college students, education students have a major and begin the courses of their major in their freshman year, rather than in their junior year at their transfer institutions. That sets you, as an education major, apart from other community college students. You have a department and faculty at the community college level that are "yours" and you get a head start on your degree, but you also have greater responsibilities than other community college students. Essentially, you have two sets of everything to which you have to pay attention.

First, you have two websites that you must monitor - this Education Department website (particularly this "Requirements" page and the pages linked to it) and your course website or, if you are a traditional student, your course syllabus. All education majors are required to stay current with the information on the department website.

Second, you have two sets of announcements to which you must pay attention. All education majors must keep up with the announcements on the "Current News" page of the department website since that is where announcements relevant to all majors are posted. You will also need to keep up with the announcements relevant to your specific courses. In a traditional course, a professor may make those announcements verbally, in writing, or on the professor's website. In an online course, a professor will have a place on the course website where announcements will be posted. Make sure you know where/how course announcements are made.

Finally, you have two sets of requirements with which you need to comply. Course specific department are found in the syllabus for each course and - again - may be hard copy or online. Department department are found on this department site. It is critical that at the beginning of every semester you check this department site for the department requirements you must meet. This applies to ALL majors whether or not you are taking an education course during a given semester and to ALL students currently taking a course whether or not you registered through TJC or your local institution.

Remember:
You may not be taking an education course this semester but you are still an education major!

ORIENTATION - PART II

11. Not counting the Up link, what are the five links at the top of this page?

12. Go to the Portfolio page, how many steps must you complete on that page?

13. Look at the chart on the Internship page. Once your campus assignment is posted, how long do you have to contact your campus?

14. Read through the information on the Mentoring page. What is the absolute minimum number of contacts you must have with your mentor/mentee during each period? (A period is the time from assignment to 1st form, 1st from to 2nd form, & so on.)

15. If you're sure your answers are correct, write down the address of this current page for you answer to #15 and then click on your professor's link below to return to your course.
