Step 1

The Admissions Office in the White Administrative Service Center will be happy to help you with each step of the application process. This office can provide you with an application, a catalog and a schedule of classes. Tours of the campus are available, as well as advisement from admissions counselors. All application materials will need to be returned to this office. The materials needed to complete your admission file are:

1.      An admissions application, which you can download for free at http://www.tjc.edu/admissions/application.htm, or call to request one to be mailed to you at 903-510-2523.

2.      An official high school transcript or a GED score report or an official transcript from any other college you may have attended. Please mail to Admissions Office, P.O. Box 9020, Tyler, TX  75711.

3.      Placement Scores from tests taken. (ACT, SAT, TASP/THEA, Accuplacer, Compass, TAAS/TAKS)

Step 2

The state of Texas mandates that all students entering a public state supported institution must take the TASP/THEA or an approved alternative test before they are allowed to enroll. Compass/Accuplacer is the alternative test that is available on the TJC campus.

The Compass/Accuplacer is conveniently given at the Testing center on the 2nd floor of the Rogers Student Center. The fee is $15.00 and can be paid at the Cashier’s office in WASC or at the Testing Center.  he test is given Monday through Friday and on some Saturdays. Please call 903.510.2617 for more test times. You are also welcome to take your test at any college near you.

Practice tests are strongly recommended to students taking the TASP/THEA or Accuplacer/Compass test. Practice tests can be accessed at www.thea.nesinc.com for free.

If you have taken the TASP/THEA test or Accuplacer/Compass test or you are TASP/THEA waived or exempt, please proceed to Step 3. You may be exempt from the TASP/THEA exam by the following: SAT, ACT, and/or TAAS/TAKS. Please call the Admissions office to inquire about the minimum scores required for exemption at 903-510-2523. If you have confirmed your exemption with the Admissions office, please be sure to provide a copy of these scores to complete your admissions record.

Step 3

Financial Aid is available for all those who would like to apply. Students will need to visit the Financial Aid homepage at http://finaid.tjc.edu/ or call the Financial Aid office at 903-510-2385, to receive scholarship applications and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The Financial Aid office is located in the WASC building.

Step 4

You will need to visit with an Academic Advisor in the area of your major. This visit must take place before you can register. The academic counselor is the only one able to program the registration system to allow you to register for your first semester. A visit with an Academic Advisor is very beneficial and will give you information on the following:

  • Choosing a major & designing a degree plan

  • Transfer work

  • Campus resources

  • Choosing courses for the upcoming semester & the registration process

For assistance in determining which school covers your major, please call the Admissions office.

  • University Studies majors, please call 903-510-2425

  • Applied Studies majors, please call 903-510-2347

  • Allied Health & Nursing majors, please call 903-510-2662

Step 5

A current class schedule will give you the dates and methods for registering for your chosen classes. If you need assistance with registration, you may visit the Registrar’s Office in the WASC or contact them by phone at 903-510-2401. Registration can be completed online through Campus Connect.
