INTERNSHIP PROCEDURES

  1. You must submit your Campus Choice form in Task Stream by the deadline given on the Internship page. (Please see the instructions on the Internship page.) Majors currently enrolled in TECA 1318 & EDUC 2301 are given first pick of assignments. Majors enrolled in other courses are assigned on a first come, first served basis. You are always given your first choice if it is available, then your second, and so on. Do not send any requests until after the available campuses are posted.

  2. If you work in a school, you may not use hours from your paid job as internship hours. Your internship hours must be totally separate. You may complete your internship on the same campus if (and only if) that campus is on the list above, but your internship hours and duties may not be the same as your "day job." The point to the internship is to expose you to new things ... not to give you credit for the job you currently hold.

  3. Intern lists are sent to the schools and campus assignments are posted below by the deadline given on the Internship page. If you miss the deadline to give your choices to your professor, you may not get a school! Do NOT contact any school until the specific assignments are posted below.

  4. Once campus assignments are posted below, email or call the contact for the school to which you have been assigned. The name and preferred contact information is given in the chart. In many cases, the contact is the principal so be professional and be polite! You might tell him/her that you are an education major who has been assigned to that campus and you want to introduce yourself and ask when would be most convenient to make your first visit. Don't start laying out conditions on when you can and cannot work. (You can do that much more politely in person during your first visit.) If you are asked to come at a time that is not possible for you, politely respond that you have classes/work/whatever at that time and ask if another time would work.

  5. Remember: you may NOT go on campus until you have received your department ID card in the mail since the ID must be worn at all times when on campus.

  6. Before your first day on a campus, make sure you are familiar with the law governing behavior on public school campuses. You can find this information on the Rules & Regulations page, which is linked to the Internship page. Even if this is not your first internship, you should review that information both as a reminder of what is allowed and not allowed and to make note of new information that has been added. You will be responsible for knowing that information prior to your first visit.  Our partner campuses have been asked to hold you to the highest standards and to notify us if any interns are in violation of any rules and regulations. Remember that you represent the department, the College, and the profession.

  7. You must complete a minimum of 16 hours for every class for which an internship is required. At the top of the Internship page, you will see a link to the Attendance Form page. Before you begin your internship, print out that page. (Use Landscape for your printer setting.) You must use a separate AF for each course. You must take the AF with you and get a signature for your hours every time you go on campus. This form, signed by a campus representative, is the only evidence of your internship hours that is accepted. It MUST be turned in to your professor by the date specified in your course syllabus. None of your hours can count without a correctly completed AF that is turned in to your professor by the deadline specified.

  8. Your professor has one or more course assignments connected with the internship. Those assignments are described in your course syllabus. Completion of those assignments is part of the internship. If you complete your 16 hours but do not complete the course assignments, you are not given credit for the internship.

  9. This probably all seems a bit overwhelming at the moment. If you have any questions, please contact your professor. Above all, don't stress! You will love the internship!

Campus assignments are posted below by the deadline given on the Internship page.
